Stocks end mixed in consolidation day Equity futures were mildly weaker in pre-market trading following another round of record high closes yesterday. The Dow and S&P had seen six consecutive day of gains as of yesterday as the market continues to mull the mix of vaccines, lockdowns, stimulus, earnings, recovery expectations, and inflation risks. ECONOMIC EVENTS: In the U.S., the NFIB small business optimism index slipped 0.9% to 95.0 in January. The JOLTS report showed job openings bounced 74,000 to 6.65M in December. TOP NEWS: Shares of General Motors ($GM) were 1.4% lower after the company announced that it is extending downtime at its Fairfax, CAMI and San Luis Potosi assembly plants due to semiconductor supply issues. On the M&A front, Glu Mobile ($GLUU) shares surged almost 35% higher after the mobile game company agreed to be acquired by Electronic Arts ($EA). Under the terms of the agreement, EA will acquire Glu for $2.1B in enterprise value, or $12.50 in cash for each share of Glu stock, representing a 36% premium to Glu's closing share price on February 5. EA shares rose 2.6% following last night's deal announcement. In earnings news, Take-Two Interactive ($TTWO) shares fell 6.1% after the video game publisher reported upbeat quarterly results but provided conservative earnings guidance for fiscal 2021. Also, Coty ($COTY) shares dropped 15.1% after the company reported better than expected quarterly earnings but lower than expected quarterly revenue. Meanwhile, Eli Lilly ($LLY) named Anat Ashkenazi as senior vice president and chief financial officer, succeeding Josh Smily, who will be leaving the company after Lilly said it was "recently made aware of allegations of an inappropriate personal relationship between Smiley and an employee." Intel ($INTC) shares were fractionally lower after Apple Insider reported that the company is delaying the release of its 7-nanometer semiconductors until late 2022 or early 2023 after it discovered an issue that results in "yield degradation." "The company's 7nm-based CPU product timing is shifting approximately six months relative to prior expectations," Intel said. "The primary driver is the yield of Intel's 7nm process, which based on recent data, is now trending approximately twelve months behind the company's internal target." Additionally, shares of New Providence Acquisition Corp. ($NPA), a special purpose acquisition company that previously announced a deal to bring AST SpaceMobile public, jumped almost 21% after Citron Research set a $50 price target on the stock, saying the SPAC is the "most compelling Space/5G/ESG story in the market." MAJOR MOVERS: Among the noteworthy gainers was KalVista ($KALV), which surged 115% after reporting "positive" results from its Phase 2 trial of KVD900. Also higher was Tilray ($TLRY), which gained 40.7% after announcing an import and distribution agreement with Grow Pharma. Among the notable losers was Ocugen ($OCGN), which dropped 20.2% after Chardan analyst Keay Nakae downgraded the stock to Neutral from Buy following the recent rally. Also lower was Wesco ($WCC), which fell 14.2% after reporting quarterly results.
